Many men step into a marriage with the idea that they are marring only the woman and not their offspring’s. Many men acknowledge the children and realize what they are getting into, but lack the restraint and patience to become a stepfather, both of which are not bad things for it is never to late to learn.

Father, no matter if it is used with step in front of it, still means father and you should do your best to love and treat them like your own. By marrying the woman of your choosing you inherit the duties of loving and protecting her and her best interests, what she holds dear to her heart as well as the duties that come with marriage( And that is starting a family).

Often in love we as men forget that children play an important part in a woman’s life. Sometimes it is hard for a man to have the patience of that is so visible on a lot of women to deal with a child who is not of your flesh. The thing you must remember is the patience you see in a woman is not something they are born with it is something they have learned through love. Men go through some extraordinary measures to protect the woman they love and the same can be said for a mother and her children. So when in doubt draw strength from your spouse and take advice from her.

Why be to proud to take advice from the person who has become both mother and father, after all transition is so much easier when you know a child likes and dislikes.

If the child’s father is still in his or her life respect that fact and give as much room for the father to interact with that child remembering that no matter what that child is apart of your house hold.  This is where restraint comes in. fathers are not perfect as well as stepfathers or mothers, a father can give wrong advice and more than likely a child will choose to listen to their blood father. With any child they must be allowed to walk on their own, so if reason doesn’t work do not be afraid to allow them to walk on their own but stay close enough to catch their fall.

Of course being a stepfather can be as difficult as stealing the White House, but it can also be rewarding, fun and righteous. To love your child is to love life itself and after all stepfather means you are a father and the word father means you take care of your child.
