The sad truth is many people may benefit from a legitimate and clinical need for medication. The truth part being more often than not the cost prohibits someone from getting needed medication.
So dealing with stress un-medicated is possible for those who are forced to simply bootstrap help for themselves. The resources available to you are immense. That is the good news. The thousands of self help books on book shelves are a great place to start. Hit the library and begin to research books on stress. Check your community for counseling centers that work on a sliding scale if finances are an issue.
Also remember that a pill is not going to take the stress away. That will involve action from you. Sit down and write out what it is exactly that is causing your stress. Be specific and really dig in. For example “Money” is not a good answer. Give details of your fears and the causes of the stress you are experiencing. Then write out any potential solutions no matter how far fetched you might think they are in that moment. When you can identify clearly and precisely what the core reason for your stress is then you can begin to deal with solutions.
The biggest battle with stress is hope. The lack of hope you may have that what it is you are stressed about you have no hope. This is the farthest thing from the truth. You may loose your job, house, and any number of terrible things can happen. Stress at its highest! In our darkest hour you must keep hope alive in you. A pill is simply not going to solve this problem. A pill may ease your stress but it does not solve the problem.
Remember you are not alone if you are handling your stress without medication. Sometimes it can be extremely tough on you emotionally. Seek out help from counselors, friends, spouse or a book.
Here is a great example. You are about to loose your house to foreclosure. Prescribing you medication is not going to stop the process. To stop the process requires action from you. Take steps to eliminate stress in your life. Educate yourself on emotions and how to harness them so stress doesn’t run your life. Be proactive in learning instead of reactive. When your stress level is low, learn from books how to deal with life’s trials and tribulations before life bites your fanny.
