Reasons online writing is becoming more lucrative

by Gordon Hamilton

The reasons online writing is becoming more lucrative are more than anything else concerned with the increasing popularity of online writing. There are more people writing online than ever before, with others joining them daily, and equally, there are more sites springing up which are affording opportunities to these writers and therefore increasing competition in the business of online writing.

When online writing was in its infancy, there were few sites dedicated to publishing same and little opportunity for making much money out of online writing. Payment was erratic and the sites which did pay were often extremely vague about how any payment due was calculated. Although this can still be the case today, the overwhelming increase in the popularity of online writing has seen not only more sites spring up which publish online writing but those existing sites being forced to adapt and pay writers something more like their true worth, in order to remain appealing to writers and essentially stay in business.

This increased competition between online writing sites has seen a huge increase in the number of different ways in which people are paid for online writing. It may be that the writer is paid a one-off, upfront amount for their article and that they thereafter forfeit the rights to any future earnings. It may be that the payment to the writer is in the form of a one-off upfront payment, plus a percentage share of the future revenues. These future revenues will essentially be gleaned from the hosting site by way of such as Google Adsense and the sale of affiliate products on the writer’s article page.

It is not only online writing itself of course which has contributed to online writing becoming more lucrative. The increased usage of the Web in general by more and more people has meant that systems such as Google Adsense are proving more lucrative, both to Internet writing hosting sites and even individual bloggers. The more people visit the sites, the more people are therefore inclined to click on the ads, generating more and more revenue. It is all one big snowball effect.

The final reason why online writing is becoming more lucrative is in the fact that not only are more and more writers aware of the fact that they have to promote their work around the Web in order to generate maximum traffic and thus revenue, the ways in which it is possible for them to do so is something else which has grown. Social book-marking sites, social networking sites and so many others like them afford excellent opportunities to online writers in this respect.

All of these factors should bring excitement to all who engage in online writing. The way in which online writing has become more lucrative in the space of a few short years must have everyone tense with anticipation for what opportunities may lie just around the corner.
