I, Doctor Theodore Branche, sans equipment and knighted did take the poet with me and boarded a ship. She was lost in what she thought was love. I had to bring her to her delirious senses and explain to her that we cannot love who we do not know. That there is, in fact, no such thing as love at first sight.
The seas were choppy as we left the harbor and she just sat there, smiling like a lunatic. I felt great compassion for her, as she is human and looked rather sweet.
"You're not in love." I told her point blank.
She smiled at me and muttered "okay".
"What you've got is a bad case of emotionitis and it just happen to hit you when you looked at him."
"Why?" She asked me, grinning. It almost seemed as though she were flirting with me, but she was just stupidly effected.
"Why do I feel protective of him?" She asked me.
"Hmm, that is odd." I admitted.
As I stood there on the deck of the dark ship and the seas tossed us to and fro, I tried to remember if I'd ever known anyone who'd ever fallen in love upon the first look of another. Clearly, what she had bore a strange resemblance to just plain old lust. I decided that a good journey would clear her head and she'd be fine.
"If it is love, I'm sure that as a scientist, I can cure you of it." I advised her.
She smiled and sighed with relief.
"Thank you Doctor Branche." She cooed, as she missed her mouth with loaded chopsticks and stuck sweet and sour chicken to her cheek.
I tried not to laugh, but then she accepted me as the non professional that I am, so I just let it out. She laughed too and threw noodles at me. We had a pretty good time, on that choppy sea. Just the two of us, as I talked her out of her emotionitis. She'd made a fairly good fool of herself, and yet she'd taken it well.
I had her back to her not so feminine self in no time. She smoked cigars, drank whiskey and played poker with the sailors.
She wrote a book of poetry on the journey and dedicated it to me. I'm a lucky rascal, I am. I won her from that other rascal.
