So you fell in love with a soldier. Perhaps it was the way that he looked in his dress greens, Acu’s or maybe he had you fooled completely. Now that you've taken the plunge, you realize that there is more to being a military spouse then what meets the eye. You have obligations to your husband , kids, job, household , and community so how do you manage to hold it all together? Here are some tips that will help to make a military marriage work.
1- Open Communication- Open communication is essential to the survival of any marriage. A couple must be able to convey how they feel with out having a shouting match or shutting out his or her spouse's feelings. Simply lending an ear to your partner will help you to better understand their view on situations, so there are no misunderstandings later on.
2- Compromise- As a spouse , we often become too spoiled and want things to go our way all of the time. However there must be a middle ground to a relationship where happiness is coming from both sides. Compromise can be a challenging thing, but if someone truly loves who they are with then it is possible. Open communication coincides with compromise and fused together it only yields positive results.
3- Sorting your schedule- As a spouse, the duties that a individual performs on a daily basis is limitless. However, creating a schedule that organizes priorities and personal time is very important. The disadvantage to being a married to the military is that time is precious. Your partner might be home today but tomorrow is another story. Deployments are long and often stressful. There fore it is imperative that couples spend every moment possible with each other .
