Women are in the workforce more than ever before. It is important for employers to pay attention to the number of women they have working for them and to address the issues that are important to women in particular. Knowing what is important work issues for women can help you make the workplace better for them and stop huge turnover rates.
Work Issues Important to Women
Money
Women want to know that they are making the same money as men do for doing the same job. Women get paid good wages today but still make far less than their male counterparts. It is time for employers to start paying women the same amount of money as men make. Women have families to raise just like men do. They can also do just as good or better jobs than the men do at the same thing. It is time to give credit where credit is due.
Flexibility
Women need a lot of flexibility with scheduling. She is more willing to stick with the job is the schedule can be flexible. Women are often the ones that have to take care of the children if they get ill or have to call in late because of doctors appointments for the children. This is something that cannot be overlooked. Women will choose to take care of their children over their job every time. It isn’t worth losing a good employee because she has children. Give her a flexible schedule and you will see that she is one of the best employees you could ask for.
Advancement
Women find that the opportunity to advance is a very important issue to them. The ability to advance should be based on ability and not on gender. That isn’t always the case in places of employment. Women want to know that the company they work for promote women if they ability is up to par with the job the promotion would entail.
Sexual Harassment
Since sexual harassment is generally an issue that is geared towards women, it is an important issue to women in the work place. It is important for a woman to know that she is protected from sexual harassment. It is a serious issue that no one should have to tolerate. The work place is a place to earn a living, not to worry about rude remarks about the woman’s body or unwanted advances. Make sure your work place has good sexual harassment policies in place so that the women that work for your company will feel more secure about working there.
These are the most important work issues for women. If you put good policies into place about these issues, you will see the morale of the women go up a hundred percent. Treat your female employees with respect and listen to what they say. Your workplace will be a much nicer place to be.
