In a deep, dark corner
A shadow hides.
It shifts its weight from foot to foot
No longer just a shadow.
He’s breathing,
He,
In and out,
In and out,
A hand grasps a rope at his waist,
Knuckles white from tension
Long arms thin yet strong
Broad shoulders take up the space around him
His face is shadowed kept away from the light,
Hidden by blackness covering his whole face,
Blocking away the world and the desires of his heart to become manifest.
His heart
Beating pumping his blood through his body,
His living soul.
Not a corpse.
He blocks the possibilities
He could lead himself to fame
Fame
A word that he shuns
He has it
He has infamy, as the loneliest man haunting ev’ry corner ready to lunge and then die of a broken heart.
But he could have given the world a new golden age of music,
Made ladies swoon,
Tears overfill,
Sighs let out,
Eyes of astonishment at his genius.
Yet he shunned the possibilities blaming his cursed flaw,
Would a beauty come and kiss him and turn him into a handsome prince?
Would love grace this man alone in the world?
No!
He remained but a living shadow years on end until he was nothing but a memory.
Years passed the legend was reborn and now his shadow falls upon our lives.
I can hear him, now, can’t you?

Being as it is that no idea is truly unique, books and movies lend us the fodder for imagination and creativity.
