Candle magic is a fantastically simple way of organising the mind and focusing the will on a particular subject. Candle magic, because of its simplicity allows a shift of attention toward mind and spirit rather than physical practice; this is the beauty of candle magic and this is the power of candle magic.

Firstly we shall forget all about color correspondences of the candle. Besides, one interpretation might not be the same as someone else’s and you will experience less freedom of instinct if you rely on color charts rather than pure will and focus.

So for this candle magic experiment we shall take one nice, new beeswax candle, some olive oil and perhaps some incense of choice. Remember, candle magic is a very personal thing and its beauty lies in its simplicity. That is why candle magic requires very little equipment.

So let us assume for this candle magic experiment that you have a particular issue that requires your attention. I hope that I do not have to mention the result that one will receive if you try to harm or manipulate someone; I will credit you with far more intelligence and awareness than that!

The first part of candle magic is to dress the candle itself. This requires a moment of peace and focus.

Clear the mind and focus on the issue. Take the olive oil and pour a little over your hands then rub the candle with your oiled hands. Focus on the issue and offer the issue to the Universe and allow it to be received. Place the candle in the holder and light the candle. Be silent, be grateful that you have been heard. Wind down and release the flame.

That is the extent of my candle magic.

Notice how visualising a result to the candle magic is not mentioned. I used to see the outcome that I wanted and soon realised that I often do not know what I really do want! This has led me into difficult circumstances when I realise that what I wanted then was not what I needed or what I want now!

Candle magic requires a measure of trust as one merely offers the issue to the Universe with focus and intent. During the candle magic procedure one could talk to a deity or a prophet, ask to be shown the reason for the issue and so on. The emphasis for candle magic then is on focusing the mind and tuning the self to Source; we often are faced with situations that are there because we need to learn something and need to discover something about the self. Candle magic should not be used to hastily change events for you cannot see the whole picture.

The purpose of the oil in candle magic is that you can rub the candle easily and allow the oil to transfer pure, raw passion into the candle. The candle then becomes a battery for your focus and desire; it is similar to using prayer beads whilst meditating.

One can either allow the candle to burn completely – as long as it is safe to do so – or you can snuff the flame, wrap the candle gently away and then bring it out again for further contemplation.

The beauty of candle magic is that you are not caught up with ritual paraphernalia or procedure. Candle magic is a very personal. Dive into pure contemplation and prayer. From that point change can take place...if it is necessary.
