Don’t Smile At Me Too Much

Please turn away, don’t smile at me too much
The vision wounds my eyes and pains my heart
So close at hand, and yet too far to touch
A journey with no end – I dare not start
Your eyes, they glow as if with midnight flames
That dance and beckon to the fire within
Then dart away in search of other games
I will not play – I know I cannot win
And yet I can’t release that shred of hope
That lights my world in murky rainbow hues
It haunts me even as with words I grope
Is there some chance? Or do I just amuse?
The words escape, they leave behind dark smears
The vision blurs, behind a veil of tears
