Race Against Time
"Remember to honor the past, always live in the present, and carry the rewards of today into the future with you, for you are the forever now." ~ Ruthieism
Lately time AND life has all but come to a halt for me, which has been the most interesting oddity really. I feel as if I am living in something akin to the slow-motion part of a movie. It is not something I have ever experienced before. I suppose I have led a very action-packed life! Of course, I have had many moments to pause and reflect in the midst of the eternity of a madness that felt as if it would never end, but then suddenly one day without warning, very quietly, it did. Just like that! When I least expected it. How about that?!
Recently, I had occasion to ponder and reflect on many things, as I often do, and what I recently pondered and reflected upon is how important humility is in this life. It actually makes quite an excellent companion for gratitude. The two seem to bode really well for an excellent coupling, like love and marriage, they just go together hand-in-hand.
We're all racing against time, trying to hurry up and get there, for what I don't know. I personally like to take it slow and enjoy the journey - and this is true for me in all things. Those who know me know that nothing irks me more than being rushed! The end is inevitable, folks! Why rush to the finish line? Time is of the essence, a relative illusion for us mere mortals really for in all reality there is no such thing as time as existence is truly eternal. But we humans are finite. And we should be cognizant of this. But we are not. We live as if we have forever THIS lifetime, but we do not. We should live our lives each day as if each day is our last. In fact, there is a song that says it best, "Bye, Bye, Miss American Pie, this'll be the day that I die?" Imagine, if we really lived our lives this way each day? Maybe we would all be kinder, calmer, cooler, more collected? Maybe we wouldn't sweat the small stuff? Maybe we would see that pretty much, it's all small stuff, in comparison to like say an Earthquake that ravishes Haiti, or a Tsunami that wipes out Indonesia, or a Hurricane that destroys New Orleans, or the Asteroid slated to wipe out planet Earth, and in the case of the latter, will it matter when there isn't any more matter to matter? Exactly.
Yet, for all of this, when faced
