Leroy Gethro Gibbs is the lead agent on the CBS hit show NCIS. He always gets his guy.
NCIS stands for Naval Criminal Investigative Service; it’s the Navy’s version of police. NCIS gets involved anytime a naval officer is a suspect or victim of a crime. In the pilot episode, Yankee White, a naval officer handling the football gets poisoned and dies on Air Force One. Right away we see Gibbs cunning and how he is able to outwit the FBI and make them look like fools, while he takes over the investigation.
Gibbs is a top rate investigator that does not play politics very well. Any case that crosses his desk he sees through to the end and does not like any one or any other agency trying to weasel their way in. He will protect his people and the victims involved by any means necessary. His cunning shows in Split Decision where he teams up with the FTA and sets up a false gun deal to catch a dirty FTA agent. He plays the agent involving them in the case, trying to track down who were selling army weapons and who murdered a marine Sergeant. Gibbs has the dirty agent set up a buy with a militia group, really the militia group members are a bunch of FTA agents and they play along with Gibbs and trap the dirty agent and petty officers.
Special Agent Gibbs also loves his coffee. He says the coffee helps him think, and he almost always is holding a cup. In Hiatus Part I, it is pointed out that after he was caught in a bomb blast, if he was seriously hit the guts all over the room would be more coffee brown.
He has been married four times, divorced three. With his first wife, Shannon, he had a daughter, Kelley. While Gibbs was deployed overseas as a Marine Sniper, his wife Shannon witnessed a murder. Shannon and Kelley were put under protection and while going somewhere in their Station Wagon, the agent driving was shot and Shannon and Kelley were killed in the crash. Gibbs married three more times, all were red heads like Shannon, only to have each end in divorce.
His team has learned to anticipate what is going to happen or what he is going to ask them to do. When they goof off, or screw up they get a slap to the back of the head. Mostly it’s Special Agent Anthony “Tony” DiNozzo who gets slapped. When Gibbs is asked why the back of the head, he replies that a smack to the back of the head is a wake up call, a smack to the face is just embarrassing.
Overall, Leroy Gethro Gibbs is a man of his word, will never leave a man behind, and does not rest until the bad guy is behind bars. He gets his guy sometimes using unconventional methods and encourages thinking outside the box to get information needed that could help solve the case. His team members have become some of the best agents because he has taught them to anticipate. Everyone can sleep easy knowing Gibbs is on the case.
