Motorola Droid

The Motorola Droid is the new competition for the Apple iPhone. The question that everyone is asking is, "Does it measure up?" Also, without comparing it to only the iPhone, how does the Motorola Droid measure up to all phones in general?

How fast Is It?

It's actually remarkably fast for how much stuff that you end up running on it. You just have to make sure you are not bogging down the system memory with applications that do not shut down on their own. I suggest downloading an application such as Advanced App Killer. The application is for free and it closes applications that run in the background when you do not want them to.

How is the sound quality?

The sound quality for calls is alright. Sometimes the calls get messed up and you can't understand anything the other person is saying. The issue is remedied if you hang up and call back. The sound quality for playing music and ring tones is awesome...well as awesome as you can get for a cell phone.

Picture quality?

The picture quality is great when I am watching trailers on flixster. The quality is not great when I am watching videos on youtube, but that is more of an issue with youtube, than an issue with the picture quality of the phone itself. The Droid also boasts a 5.0 megapixel camera, which is the most that I have heard of to date on any cell phone.

Let's talk about Apps

The Android operating system does not have as many apps as the iPhone, but the list is definitely growing and there are more than enough apps to keep the average person entertained.

How's the keyboard?

The keyboard is...well...different. The keyboard takes some time to get use to because it is set up a little differently than most QWERTY keyboards. Also, if you have big thumbs (I do), then it take a little extra longer for you to get use to using the top row of keys. With that said, it's better than nothing. Once you get used to the keyboard, it definitely is a time safer when it comes to texting, emailing, or using google talk.

What does it all really come down to?

What it really comes down to is what interface and what cell phone service you want to use. With the Droid you can have a touch phone that is comparable and in some ways better than the iPhone and you do not have to switch to AT&T. Some people adamantly prefer the iPhone....I do not believe that it is because one phone is superior, but it is more just a matter of preference these days. All in all, the Droid is a great phone and is as good if not better than the iPhone.
