Ants…
Pattern your life, pattern your life
After what; after who?
The tiny little ant,
God says, do as they do.
Us: Come on, God. Why would we do that?
The ant is so small and miniscule.
It can’t do what we can do.
Telling us to be like an ant seems cruel.
God: Ahh, but you don’t understand…
This is not an insult, it is to better your life.
Forget the size and weight of the ant.
Instead, look at all the things they do right.
Us: What, are you serious? What could we possibly learn?
They aren’t big and mighty like us.
They’re not even fast or swift.
In fact, all it takes is one footstep and their crushed.
God: But you’re missing the whole point.
They exemplify much wisdom, don’t you see.
Look at their daily actions.
Although, they have no ruler, hard workers they be.
They labor throughout the summer
Gathering food for the winter.
You must learn to be like them
And not be lazy and self-centered.
For a lazy person will soon end up.
In a place that no one wants to go.
The poor house is not a place for anyone
Is that what you want; in life, being so low?
Us: No, Lord, not at all.
I see exactly what you mean.
And will definitely take heed.
Thanks so much, Lord, for showing me these things.

Tiny ants get no respect,

carrying 20 times their weight,
in single file they march along.

Ants are Nature's communists
They work collective, proud
You never hear them shouting
No riots, placards, crowds.

Black specks, pepper treks, across my floor
one by one, they follow in legion, to the door
Marching forth, intent on purpose
