If you make a good product that people want it will sell itself, if you make the best quality product and get the best components to make it. Package it and place in on a self it should sell. That is all you need to do rely on quality and build a reputation that you can trade on.
This sound great and I am sure that it is the first basis that most company start with. After all you would not go far by making a bad product that people did not want.
But the product will not just sell itself. For something to sell you need some one to tell you about it. Because people sell to other people. So who better than the person whose vision it was in the first place. They are enthusiastic and eager to show other how good it is.
It takes a certain personality type to go in to a situation and face rejection and look for a positive. Find that positive and turn it around in to a sale and then close the sale. To come at it from a highly personal view point is not always the best way of doing things. You know how good it is, the time it takes to make and the skills involved. And all the buyer wants to do is talk about cost.
The common concept that the sales person is an affable and articulate person. Able to talk to any one and get them what they want. But a sales person must be more than that. A good sales person will also see things beyond the actual situation that they are in.
A good sales person will look for the thing that you want. He will show you what it can do he will explain what you need and put you at ease. A good sales person will find a way for you to be able to afford what they have to sell.
A good sales person will look for leads and follow them up. Contact and make notes about people. Record meetings and remember comments made so that they can come back and try another day. A good sales person is not just the happy face that is shaking your hand. A good sales person is looking for the thing that you want and trying to get it to you.
But after that sale, a sales person should follow it up. Supply a level of service and care that you the customer will remember and that will build your loyalty. A good sales person will look after the relationship for the benefit of all parties and help you in what you want to do as well as what his company wants to do.
A good sales person is a hard thing to find. So yes, a product will sell itself, but a sales person will help it sell just that little bit better .
