Valentine's Day should not be a day for singles to be sad because it's a day for everyone to celebrate. At this time of year February the 14th, cards are sent out to loved ones as well as lovers. It's a day to celebrate romance whether you are attached to someone or not. Buy yourself some roses or go out with friends. Also think about when you were teenagers, the day represented some fun times regardless of whether you had a boyfriend or not. Trips to the movie theater, the bowling alley, Mcdonalds after or even enjoying the atmosphere of being at the mall. Should we also mention the College Freshman and the parties to be had. Valentine's Day was an evening of fun, whether single or attached, so why should anyone be sad on Valentine's Day.
The name Valentine taken from an actual saint, (Saint Valentine, who was martyred around 200 A.D) had nothing to do with romance. It was during the Middle ages when courtship and romantic poetry became a fashion that Valentine's Day came into being. Poets such as Chauser who wrote often about romance, greatly added to this celebration of romantic feelings. At that time many of these recipient's were single young ladies awaiting courtship.
As with all things changes are made as time goes on. The same is true about Valentine's Day the presumption that it's a celebration between lovers only began as the chaperons became extinct. dating more prevalent and lovers more abundant. Remember also that, as I said before loved ones are now included, such as children, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, everyone is on the list for a Valentine's Day card, even that nice professor.
You never know what the future holds, so celebrate the romanticism of the day, with friends, family or even yourself. Go out mingle get to know people. Take out a young family member if you have one, children love to celebrate the day as everyone knows, heart shaped candies, chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate much the same things adults like as well, or maybe participate in one of those singles events that often happens on Valentine's Day, and there is usually, a few around. Perhaps lurking on the horizon is a Valentine's Day card from an anonymous admirer with your name on it and an invitation to something splendid, but until then enjoy the day.
