Stress is a major factor in the health issues that are presented to doctors today. Approximately two thirds of yearly visits to doctors can be traced back to being stress related. It is silent and it can be the cause of cancer, heart disease and death. Everyone experiences stress but it is how you react to stress that makes the difference. Here are some causes and results of how stress can hurt your health.
Types of stress
There are four basic types of stress these are sometimes very subtle but none the less cause other problems. When you stress out for long periods of time you will notice changes in your body. These can include changes in behavior which you may not notice but others around you will such as family. Your physical health may suffer and in having less energy than you use to plus your immune system can suffer under the strain. You may notice changes in your emotions such as depression or crying for no apparent reason. There may be changes in your train of thought as you try to cope with what is happening to your body.
Chronic stress
Everyone experiences stress on a daily bases but when this stress becomes chronic there may be some extreme changes to your body. Stress is silent and you may not be aware of it as it creeps up on you and becomes a part of your everyday feelings. When you are constantly and continually in a state of stress over long periods of time it can really do damage to your body. It can lead to heart disease, problems with digestion, impact your weight either by loss of weight or gaining weight and leave your immune system in tatters as you develop autoimmune diseases. Stress can even cause skin conditions in your body that you never experienced before, such as eczema.
Mental symptoms caused by stress
Stress is found in everyday living and there is really no way to avoid it completely. It is caused by the pressures we find in the world we live in. It is how you cope with this stress that is the key to staying healthy. When stress gets out of control it can cause damage to every fiber of our being. Stress can cause tension which in turn can cause you to feel very irritable. It can cause you to lose your ability to concentrate and feel tired all the time. It can interfere with a good night’s sleep by worrying about things you may not be able to control.
