Product reviews: Johnson's Dreamy Body Cream

Created on: February 03, 2010

On wandering around my local Superdrug store recently - on a mission to just buy some sort of indigestion remedy and a bottle of calpol, I was NOT going to be swayed into buying anything else that I didn't need.

I would look around all the isles as I normally do, then I would calmly walk up to the till with my two intended items.

It was working out fine and my basket indeed only had the two required items in. Then I came to the end of the isle right in front of the till.

There in front of me was a large display of Johnsons's 'Dreamy skin' body lotions and creams.

Ooh that looks nice I thought!
I tried to walk past but the sign above the display was too much - Half price.

It was too much of a weakness and I picked up first the lotion. It smelt divine but after checking the consistency I noticed it was a bit runny, so popped it down and picked up the body cream without even opening the lid and popped it into my basket and off to the till I happily skipped!

So finally, onto the review..

Price and packaging~
As mentioned this comes in both the lotion and the cream but when moisturising my body I find that creams/body butters work best and absorb into my skin far better than lotions do so I always opt for the latter choice.

The body cream comes in a delightful lavender coloured, cylindrical shaped tub that is approx 4 inches wide and 1 inch deep.

The tub has an easy to open screw lid top which is also in a dreamy lavender colour, with the johnson's logo written in a darker purple colour in the centre.

The price was at the time of buying £1.66 but was half price so check out other stockists to see if it is cheaper elsewhere.

What is it exactly?~
This is no ordinary body cream - so it claims. It is enriched with moonflower which is known for it's relaxing properties and the 'promise' on the front of the tub is to "Prepare to sleep and awaken to beautiful skin."

The cream is a very pale mauve colour and is quite thick and creamy in consistency which looks like it will melt into my skin on application. So far I'm impressed!
On removing the lid there is a foil cover sealing the cream inside the tub and the second it's pealed back there is a lovely, calming lavender scent filling the air.

My experience of using the cream~
I tend to have skin that borders more on the dry side than 'normal' so apply moisturiser everyday after a shower and this was the case here.

After emerging from my shower I patted my skin but left it slightly damp to allow the body cream to soak into my skin easier.

The cream felt cold on application but not too much was required as I'd predicted it just melted into my skin straight away without having to rub it for ages.

I used all over my body and neck (but not my face) and found I didn't use that much. I was worried it wouldn't last long as the cream comes in a 250ml size tub and thought after 3 or 4 uses it would have gone. I needn't have worried as after smothering myself in it the cream barely looked touched.

Would I recommend it?~
It has such a wonderful, calming aroma and is a fantastic moisturiser - it left my skin feeling very soft the mornings after - so Yes on that.
I have used it for 4 nights running now before climbing into bed and it has made me feel more relaxed whilst I have been reading, however I can't say I actually slept any sounder!

This is a lovely indulgent body cream though that I will definitely be buying once the tub has run out.
