Where is God?

by Debbie Campbell

Created on: February 02, 2010

Today, more than ever people are asking, "Where is God?" Many people have witnessed to others about God's powerful love and His ability to control all things, while at the same time we see unemployment rates rise, grocery prices higher than ever, and gasoline prices dramatically increasing. We all of a sudden want to know, "Where is God?"

Looking into the eyes of a mother who can't afford to buy food for her family or an elderly man who must choose between life saving medication or eating, it's truly hard to explain to them where God is. However, sometimes we want to question God's existence during tough times and wonder why He doesn't just snap His fingers and make it all better.Today, more than ever God's presence is with us. There are many more prayers going out today than ever before. When things seemed, "not so bad", we took for granted that God was going to provide for our needs - and sometimes our wants. But, after it's all gone - where do we turn? We turn to God for answers and wonder where He is.

God's presence is with us as long as we allow it to be. When we pat ourselves on the back for a job well done, we sometimes forget that we couldn't have done the job had it not been for God Himself. When we are too busy to get on our knees and thank Him for all He has blessed us with, we forget that he didn't  "have" to bless us. When we take for granted the food we eat daily, the bed we sleep in, and the shelter we've been provided, we tell God - "it's your duty to do those things, after all - You are God."

Was God in the homeless man that asked for food yesterday - yet we were too busy to help? Was He in the young mother who didn't know how she was going to work when she couldn't afford daycare - yet we were too preoccupied to listen? Was God in the child that needed a home because mom and dad just couldn't handle it anymore - yet we couldn't make room for her? Was He in the suicidal man who needed someone to talk to - yet we had our own problems and didn't take time to listen? We want to know where God is, yet we fail to acknowledge His very existence.Looking into the eyes of the very people we ignore,we could be missing the very thing we are looking for - God.

God is where we seek Him. If we don't seek Him, how can we find Him? We need to look in the lives of others and say a prayer of hope for them, get on our knees and thank Him for all the blessings, and acknowledge the fact that we still need Him.  God said He would never leave us nor forsake us - and He never has.
