Cherishing Your Last Moments

B'thump, B'thump, B'thump, B'thump ...

Your hand in mine feels cooler than it did a mere moment ago

B'thump, B'thump, B'thump, B'thump ...

Absently, with my thumb, I gently stroke your fingers, soft and unmoving

B'thump, B'thump, B'thump, B'thump ...

Sometimes there's a flicker of movement; a twitch when you briefly grip my finger

B'thump, B'thump, B'thump, B'thump ...

Involuntary or maybe a gesture of desperation; you try to comfort me

B'thump, B'thump, B'thump, B'thump ...

When it is I who tries to comfort you

B'thump, B'thump, B'thump, B'thump ...

Letting you know

B'thump, B'thump, B'thump ...

It's quite alright

B'thump, B'thump ...

To let go

B'thump ...

Even though I cannot

B'thump ...

Say goodbye

B'thump ...

I squeeze your hand one last time

B'thump ...

Bringing it to my lips for a final, tender

B'thump ...

Farewell.
