Poetry: Birthdays

by Duarl Richardson

 WHEN I WAS BORN

When I was born life was simple and plain.

Life wasn’t driven by how much you can gain.

You were driven by family and love they shared.

You had friends that really cared.

Jesus was the mainstay of a healthy, loving home.

His love kept the family together and never alone.

Families today are in such a big hurry.

To keep up with the Jones’ is their only worry.

When the family forgets the love Jesus gives in our lives.

They have forgotten what makes a family thrive.

I dream of a day when families are no longer torn.

I dream of a day like, when I was born.
