I am disappointed that so many people could possibly believe online daters are not real couples. I have a very personal experience that has shown me how real it actually is.
I was one of those people who use to mock the couples that met through the Internet. I was a really big sceptic, and I believed at the time that anyone who connected online like that was delusional. We hear the rumors about it, and it seems almost unrealistic because how many people could actually be serious about someone they never met in person? Well, honestly the only difference between dating someone online, and dating someone in person is the inability of physical contact. Now, you may say there is more than that because how can you prove they aren't lying about their identity? A Simple answer is research. In this day and age it's almost foolish to not research a potential beaus, even if they are next door. So that solves that.
When I was younger I laughed anytime a friend mentioned that they liked someone online because I believed long distance relationships were impossible, and internet dating was just for those individuals who wished to pass time until their real future spouse came along. I was prov en wrong 3 years ago. My own experience has taught me that sometimes the connections we develop online are sometimes even stronger than our personal face to face connections. The reason why is that some of us are able to open up more, and let go of our inhibitions easier when we know a person is further away. This was the case for me when I met my husband on Myspace.
At first when I met him I thought he was just being cute, and I even challenged him. I gave him a hard time because I was skeptical about the whole long distance relationship thing, but after a few weeks of his persistence I realized that maybe I should try to get to know him because he seemed to be a very nice guy. After asking him questions, and learning more about him I discovered that he is actually the exact type of man I would be interested in where I lived, but there was of course a huge distance issue so I was naturally concerned. I decided to give it a try, though, because I really started to care about him after spending so much time talking, and learning so much about eachothers life. I was quickly changing from being a skeptic to a true believer in online dating because, maybe, I was a bit close minded before to believe that everyone should expect to meet
