There are many other ways to add a splash of color to your décor that do not involve painting.  These ideas would work in a home that you own or in an apartment where you are not free to make major alterations such as adding new paint color to the walls.

Adding one or more accent rugs to a room can bring in new color. You can be creative with a combination of colors and designs.  You can also increase the visual diversity of a room by using accent rugs made of different textures.

Wall art is another way to add color to a room.  You can select art that blends with your current color scheme or you can go in a totally different direction and select wall art that adds a whole new color to your décor. Don’t overlook the power of black and white photos. You can create a wall collage of black and white photos and include one photo of a brightly colored flower or chartreuse plant and instantly bring a spark of brightness into your décor.

You can use sofa or chair covers to add color to your living area. A new comforter set or duvet cover can add color to your bedroom.

Window treatments can be a way to add color to a room. Even if your window treatments only consist of blinds and no material window dressing, you can buy blinds of a different color to change the appearance of a room.

A very simple way to add color to a room is to buy several glass containers and fill them with colorful objects such as multi-colored stones, marbles, painted shells, colorful soaps in the bathroom, fruit in the kitchen, or any other items that you would like to use. Colorful vases are a possible way to add color to a room.

Small color changes in décor items such as lamp shades, pillows, candles, placemats, and tablecloths all add a new appearance to your room. Adding a wall tapestry is an easy way to cover a wall with color.

To add color to a kitchen, you can buy colorful small counter top appliances such as a red, yellow, blue, or green toaster, coffee maker, microwave, or mixer.

Bring some flowers into your house.  Fresh flowers certainly provide a splash of color.  A hanging basket of ivy can add a splash of green to a room. An indoor planter with small trellis makes a colorful display on a kitchen island or on a breakfast bar separating the kitchen and living area. Choosing colorful containers for indoor plants also brightens a room’s décor.
