It’s raining again, and you watch your kids pressing their noses against the windows, getting more restless by the minute. You’ve all cleaned the closets and baked the cookies. You are running out of craft ideas. Everyone is ready to head out the door and experience kid-oriented entertainment the Dallas Metroplex area has to offer.
Check out your local library
The Dallas Library offers a Children’s Center with specially trained librarians to assist kids. Fridays is also Story time. But the Dallas Metroplex area encompasses a very large area. Children’s activities are not limited to the Dallas Library downtown, but many suburbs offer Children’s activities on alternate days. So if it’s raining but it’s not Friday, look into Children’s Story Time at nearby libraries. Chances are you will find something suitable.
Visit your nearest Mall
Many malls feature a kid-friendly environment or activities that will keep youngsters entertained. Quite a few malls feature a children’s indoor play area. The Galleria or Vista Ridge Mall are only a few. Here you can sit and read a good book while the kids play in a safe and dry place and get the benefit of interacting with other kids. Grapevine Mills Mall features the Rainforest Cafe, and it is always the highlight of any child’s shopping trip to feed pennies to the alligator in front of the restaurant. Books-A-Million offers a kids area complete with mini cartoon clips, and a chance for you to browse quickly for a book or two. If you all feel the need for exercise, enter the mall on one end, give each kid a dollar and head for “A Dollar”. To a kid, this place is a treasure trove and everything really does cost a dollar.
Ice Skating
Want a little more exercise for your off-spring? There are quite a few ice skating rinks in the Dallas Metroplex area. The Galleria, Grapevine Mills Mall, Stone Briar Centre in Frisco are some of the malls that also feature ice skating rinks. But if you want to avoid malls, you can also head for America’s Ice Garden on Pearl St in Dallas, the Dr. Pepper Star Center in Farmers Branch or the Ft. Worth Ice Skating Rink.
Roller Skating
If you’d rather skate somewhere warmer, try one of the many roller skating rinks. Some of them have separate areas for beginners or smaller children, a good way to introduce them to this sport. Interskate in Lewisville, part of the Dallas Metroplex area, not only has one
