2010 Grammy Awards: Red carpet winners and losers

by Lynette Alice

Created on: February 01, 2010

The 2010 Grammy Awards continued the trend of the last several years in which the biggest hype was centered around the fashions displayed by the entertainers walking the red carpet more than the music they were there to be honored for or perform. As could be expected there were winners, losers, oddities, and a few outfits that made absolutely no sense at all. While fashion and style are subjective to each individuals preferences, this year sorting the good from the bad was not much of a problem.

Lady Gaga took the lead walking the red carpet in a one of kind "Tinker Bell goes to space" themed design - for the lack of a better description - designed specifically for her by Armani. It was a pink dress with what appeared to be light metallic rings that encompassed her from just above the the bosom to below the knee. She also carried a large spiked chrome star in her hand to set the outfit off. Add to that her pale makeup with pink frosted lips, signature dark eye makeup, and sunflower yellow shoulder length hair and it was actually a good - and tame - look for her. It worked because it fit her personality and was completely unique making Lady Gaga a red carpet winner.

For each winner there is usually a loser, and Britney Spears filled that familiar fashion role again. Spears showed up for the red carpet looking like her fitness program was forgotten displaying a little extra junk in the trunk - and everywhere else. Her outfit looked like she rummaged through the WalMart lingerie section (Although it was D&G) and threw together whatever was on sale. The best way to describe what she wore was a black bikini under a sheer black half body-stocking that was part embellished, part semi-fishnet, and all bad.

Beyonce Knowles was a red carpet winner for keeping simple in a floor length mermaid-hem gown she wore zipped down just enough to put the goods on display without being too forward. The quarter sleeved dress bore a simple design and was topped off with nothing more than gold dangling earrings and a mega-watt smile.

Taylor Swift scored a big win styling a a midnight blue Kafmanfranco sequined gown that was the epitome of sophistication and one of the best ensembles on display. She kept the jewelry simply as well wearing just two matching bangle bracelets on her right wrist and hoop-in-hoop dangling earrings.

Katy Perry neither won nor lost, but she certainly could have done better. Her floor length full sleeved champagne dress with brown flower accents did nothing
