Poetry: Global warming

by Paul Waddington

Our planet earth so delicate
Is dying underneath our feet
The next species we eliminate
How long before we kill ourselves?

An oil spill and toxic waste displaced
We do not feel the oceans pain
And people starve, the sky turns black
Fuelled by greed, it seems insane

A waste of life does no-one care
We dig and make our own grave
Pretty soon if we keep on
There’ll be nothing left to save

Oceans rise and ice caps melt
The seas a liquid dumping ground
Harvests fail and drought is rife
Our precious home we do condemn

Burning oil and fossil fuels
Our limited supplies
All are wasted recklessly
We only speed up our demise

Tsunamis, typhoons, hurricanes
Earthquakes, flooding, forest fires
Is this mother earths last attempt
To cure us of our selfish desires?

The time is now and we must act
For all our children’s sakes
We’re nearly there the final chance
Or they will pay for our mistakes.
