The politicians are patting themselves and each other on the back as they pretend they have proven the kindness of the people of their countries by how their governments and government disaster agencies have responded to the earthquake in Haiti.
They claim they have acted as quickly as anyone could under such circumstances and shown the great humanity of their people. And of course their meeting in Montreal resulted in only more empty words and vague promises for the future as they seek to exercise an even greater political and economic control over Haiti while also buying votes in their own countries with their pretense of acting humanly.
Did they even put into action on the same day the collection and delivery of the 200,000 tents requested by the Haiti government as one of the people’s most pressing needs along with their need for clean water, food, and medical supplies?
And did you notice how quick the politician’s glorious pretense of humanity evaporated when it was suggested that Haiti’s debt be forgiven? Their excuse was that the IMF is worried about it being precedence setting, and we all know how important it is to not set a precedence of acting in a kindly manner instead of pursuing capitalist profits right?
The people in those very same countries that had politicians attend the Montreal Event didn’t offer their money up as a loan but gave it willingly to help their fellow man in need, and still their politicians don’t get it. Haiti cannot even meet their interest payments now so their debt will only get larger and be an even greater yoke on the backs of the people as they try to rebuild their devastated country.
This already was a poor country and the greedy capitalist system has received an opportunity to purchase the Haitians for their lifetimes and that of their children as well for a mere pittance. Slavery is not illegal but simply hidden within the capitalist structures, and we slaves even worship our corrupt political system that allows us to elect the selfish politicians who’ll casually sell even us into slavery for their own short term political gain.
Two weeks after the earthquake and all those countries leaders have not even managed to get enough water, food, medical supplies, or even tents for the displaced people into Haiti.
