Did someone ask how to add color to a room without using paint on the walls? In return one may ask: Why on earth would one exclude the idea of painting the walls when desiring more color?
The later question’s answer is easy to understand after becoming aware of a given situation such as a renter’s policy or the mere fact that someone is not ready to commit to a permanent color as of yet. The desire to have white walls while using color in other ways to liven up a room could very well be another reason why someone may not desire to paint the walls.
To begin answering the first question, one should observe the room; take note of where the possibility of color could be added. Windows, flooring, and furniture are the largest parts of a room where color would be most dominant.
Color can be added by the choice of window décor. Shades and blinds regardless of the material of which they are made, come in a variety of colors. Curtains and valances whether using a plain or a printed material would instantly add color to a room. Even if the choice of a neutral color is used for the window dressing one could also add accessories such as tie backs or decorative beads to add a touch of color. Should the idea of not using curtains, which may limit the amount of natural light entering the room, be more appealing, a beautiful alternative would be to apply a decorative window film which can be found at your local home improvement store.
Adding a large or medium sized area rug could effortlessly add color and personality to a room. Again the choice of the rug being solid colored or having a pattern would liven up a room. There are also smaller floor pieces such as runners and accent rugs that could add a touch of color.
The furniture itself may be of a color or perhaps consider reupholstering the furniture. For a less expensive way to change the look of furniture; using a slip cover for sofas, chairs, ottomans and/or dining room chairs may be worth taking the time to look into.
Other ways to add color and personality to a room is by using wallwords which are just as easy to remove as they are to apply to the wall itself. Wallwords can be more than words, there are many images as well as words which can even be personalized! When selecting accessories use color coordinated items such as using lamps or freestanding lamps, pillows, centerpieces and even using natural colors which can be obtained by having plants, indoor trees and flowers.
With these inspiring ideas it’s easy to see how to use color to help liven and beautify a room without needing to paint any walls.
