Glam rock's place in musical history

The eyeliner, the lipstick, the teased hair, leather and bad boy style created a fad called glam rock. Where pretty boy glamour met bad boy rockers to form a recipe for an era of cool for millions of fans who love their hair bands. My walls were plastered with the pages of the magazines that featured these bands, at 14, glam rock inspired my first crushes and gave me a love of pretty bad boys that stayed my whole life through. The songs were soulful, ballads that sang of heartache or love and they could give you goose bumps. Over-dramatic video theatrics and costumes that could not include enough leather, silver jewelry and black was the color of favor. They played the Sunset Strip and had the time of their lives in a decade made for glam rock, the 80's.

Even though some stayed around in the early 90's, grunge took over as the new sound and glam rock became a little bit hokey at the time. But now, we look back and celebrate the Top Ten Glam Rock Hair Bands in history. (Not including hair bands that are more on the rock side, like Aerosmith, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Quiet Riot, etc. I didn't want to insult them by not making our list, but I also didn't want to insult them by making our list?)

10. Twisted Sister- I put this one last because they are on the border of being glam rock, but there early images with the makeup and hair is undeniably glam. They might be on here purely for "We're Not Going to Take It" but also because " I Wanna Rock". They were a gregarious bunch of rockers, who proved that you didn't have to be pretty to be in the glam rock genre. Plus the video on MTV played more than anyone wanted to see it, so it's firmly burned into our minds.

9.. Cinderella- One of the biggest hair bands in terms of actual big hair. They teased to the roof! They were very soulful and gave us the classic song "Don't know what you got til it's gone".

8. Great White- This band put in their due time, from 1982 to 2007 they have been releasing records. They were not as pretty and made up, but the had a glam rock sound, especially with their hit "Once Bitten Twice Shy".

7. Ratt- When I think of Ratt all I think of is that awesome video Round and Round. Maybe I was watching too much MTV, but this song was just good. They also gave us such hits as "Wanted Man", "Lay it Down" and "Back for More". They were always on the heavier side of rock, but still had enough glam to make the list.

6. Skid Row- Sebastian Back exploded onto the scene with their hit MTV favorite "18 & Life"
