How to throw a great Super Bowl party

by Nancy Seddens

Created on: January 29, 2010

The Super Bowl makes an excellent excuse for a party! After the formality and traditions of Thanksgiving  Christmas and New Years an excuse to let one’s hair down and throw together a party where you have complete choice over who to invite (unlike family oriented parties) and the only dress code for guests is to dress comfortably, is a welcome change.

The first step for a great Super Bowl party is deciding what kind of party you want to throw. Will this be a guys only, girls only, a mixed party or a couples party? If it is a couple’s party will the couples stay together or will the girls hang out separately while the guys watch football. More and more women enjoy football but they don’t always enjoy it to the same degree or the same way that men do. Are those who will be watching the game die hard fans who will watch every second or casual fans who will chat until something exciting happens? Will kids be in the way or will they be welcome to join in the fun?

Once these questions have been answered you can decide if you are having one big party or several small parties held at the same location. For some parties the heavy duty fans will hunker down in front of the biggest TV in the house while the less enthusiastic guests visit in another room with perhaps a smaller TV. Children that can be trusted on their own can have their own party with a rented video if they aren’t into football.

Once the logistics have been figured out the next thing to consider is food. There are three important things to consider where food is concerned. First of all pick food that all guests can enjoy; no matter how many mini parties there are at the big party, there should only be one menu. The second thing to take into account is choosing an easy menu. The host or hostess should be able to enjoy the party as much as guests. And lastly you need to keep in mind the ease of clean up afterward.

A hard sided cooler with salted ice will keep favorite drinks easy to reach and extra cold while keep the host or hostess from running back and forth from the fridge. Buffalo wings are very easy if you buy them fully cooked and frozen. Spray cooking oil on shallow aluminum foil pans and spread the wings heat in the oven for 30 or 40 minutes and voila` you have a wonderful snack that is good with beer or pop. Serve the wings and a couple of different dips up until the second half starts and then let the wings and dips go empty so the guest will have an appetite for half
