This 2010 film will make you "cry, laugh and cheer all at the same time!" in regards to the human spirit and what lengths men and women will go through just to save their children from dying. "Even if it means giving up everything in life?" Be sure to bring plenty of tissues while viewing this delightful and truly loving modern family day film to the theater!
Executive producer of the film Harrison Ford also played the part of the 'Ironic" Dr. Robert Stonehill, medical research scientist. Brendan Fraser (John Crowley) is a bio-technology executive of a large corporation, whose (2) two children are afflicted with the Pompe Disease, (also known as acid maltase deficiency) which at the time had NO cure for.
John Crowley and his beautiful wife Aileen (Keri Russel) spent years and years trying to find a cure for this often-times genetic deadly disease for their two children shown in the film as ages seven and nine. Unfortunately, born with this lethal and extremely expensive health-care problem ($40,000.00 per month) called "Pompe Disease" caused by a deficiency in the enzyme Acid alpha-glucosidase, which is needed to break down glycogen (related to sugar.)
One day highly paid executive John (Brendan Fraser) is sitting at a board room meeting discussion and finally realizes 'he has got to find a cure for his two children?" Ups and leaves to another state to find medical research scientist Dr. Stonehill (Harrison Ford). Although, Dr. Stonehill is a genius, but has his own "strange" way of doing research with no monetary funding.
Meaning that he could care less about money and other scientist about what they have discovered regarding this incurable Pompe disease, (originally identified in 1932). John Crowley finally convinces Dr. Stonehill, "Your scientific theories have NO meaning if they never save a persons life?" His theories for a cure always remained on the blackboard because of lack of financial funding, but his findings was published through medical advertisements for some odd reason?
John Crowley, expert executive financial adviser, tells Dr. Stonehill that "you've got to find a way to get the financial research backing that you need" in order to continue your experiments which cost millions of dollars. Clever John Crowley and his wife Aileen starts the Pompe Foundation, collecting donations world-wide, eventually convincing others to join in.
"This is where this heart-warming film really begins?" Brendan Fraser shows all of his talented emotion and facial expressions
