Recipes: Delicious milkshakes

Nutella, chocolate, and toasted marshmallows… what more could you ask for?  I like to describe this as a campfire in a glass.  With the toasted marshmallows and the chocolate, I think it reminds me a bit of smores.  It takes me back to evenings around a campfire, but with the hazelnut flavor of Nutella, this shake has a bit of a sophisticated twist.

Here’s what you’ll need to get started:

- 2 cups of milk (I use skim milk, but 2% or whole will make it thicker)

- 4 tbsp of Nutella

- 3 cups of chocolate ice cream

- 2 handfuls of small marshmallows

1. Let’s take it from the top.  A few hours before making your shakes, put 2 glasses in the freezer.  (I am convinced every milkshake is better when served in a frosted glass!)

2. When you’re ready to indulge, turn on your oven’s broiler.  (Yes, this milkshake recipe requires use of the oven.)  Begin by placing the marshmallows in a shallow pan on the top oven rack.

3. Put the Nutella and milk in the blender, and mix until the Nutella is well blended into the milk.

4. Check on your marshmallows.  You want them browned, but not burnt.  Most importantly, you don’t want them to be on fire.  (This may seem a bit obvious, but as it turns out, marshmallows are quite flammable.  I point this out primarily because, as much as I hate to admit it, I once started a fire while making these milkshakes.)

5. Once you’ve confirmed your marshmallows are safely toasting, add the ice cream and mix until the shakes reach the desired consistency.  Pour into glasses.

6. When the marshmallows are browned, drop a spoonful onto the top of each shake.  Serve with a straw and a long spoon.

Yes, this will be your new favorite milkshake.  And yes, your friends are going to love you for it.
