Celtic Woman: A New Journey is a grand album. It features the same astonishing music and fabulous vocals that they had already established with the first album and taken it to a new height. There are a few things that are different, like there are more of the percussion instruments on this one and a new member to the group, Hayley Westernra. If one is fond of Celtic music this one is a must have.
"The Sky And The Dawn And The Sun" is the opening song that features the whole group. The percussions and fiddling are brilliant but the song itself, while the singing was good the lyrics themselves were a might bland for my liking. Chloe did a very nice job on "The Prayer." Though it was preformed only in English it is still a very nice version. Of all the members of the group her voice is the most pure and beautiful, almost angelic in nature. Orla does a very nice job on "Newgrange" and all the girls do a splendid acapella version of "Over The Rainbow." I was a might bored with "The Blessing" as I found it a bit monotonous. Meav does a wonderful job on "Dulaman" which is perhaps the most catchy and energetic song on the album. It's very easy to find oneself humming or singing this song even if they don't rightfully know what it means. The whole lot did a very good job on "Beyond the Sea" which is a very unique version with Celtic overtones. The classic song "The Last Rose Of Summer" receives a beautiful treatment by Meav and Lisa does a nice job with "Caledonia" as well. Though I've heard better versions of "Lascia Ch'io Pianga" Hayley does a very nice job, especially with Mairead joining in on the violin. She's not Charlotte Church but on the other hand who is? My favorite Celtic song "Carrickfergus" is given a wonderful treatment by Orla who also did a nice job of playing the harp on that number. Chloe does a good job on "Vivaldi's Rain." "The Voice" is catchy and lively with a decent rhythm but I've never cared for "Scarborugh Fair" so I can't make a comment to it's merit or lack thereof. The final song is "Mo Ghile Meir (Our Hero)" in which the whole lot joins in on the classic song.
