Reasons to take up cycling

In this modern world of fast and efficient transportation, the modest means of transportation by cycling has been phased out. But many people have come to realise the many reasons to take up cycling. So people have resorted to buying bicycles.

Cycling provides an aerobic boost to the cardiovascular system but with less stress on your joints. Cardiovascular fitness is measured in terms of aerobic capacity, which is, the ability to do whole-body exercise of moderate to high intensity over an extended period of time. Regular vigorous cycling helps improve the aerobic capacity of the body. It also helps to reduce the risk of heart disease. The heart becomes stronger and the cardiovascular system will improve. The heart increases slightly in size while cycling and so it is capable of pumping more blood. You will have more energy as your muscles are getting more oxygen with every heartbeat. The more oxygen the tissues in the muscles receive, the more work you can perform.

Cycling several times a week is a fun and fast way to burn fat and calories. It increases lean weight. Cycling helps work all the major muscles of the lower body and can result in a slim, muscular look. Within a few weeks of cycling, your body will begin to become more toned and your excess weight will start to drop. You will feel better about yourself as you will feel more energetic, alert and be more attractive.

Riding a bicycle can also open the door to new experiences. Travelling by bicycle through new areas is a lot of fun. You can enjoy the scenery more. It is a very different experience from travelling in a car, for instance. Cycling puts you in the fresh air where you can be a part of the experience rather than just observing from a car window. You will more likely stop and enjoy the scenery or go exploring. Bicycles can take you through places that cars cannot. It is a relaxing way to spend a couple of hours.

Cycling can also be regarded as a social activity. It gives you an opportunity to meet people. It will help expand your circle of friends and experiences. Some of these cycling activities take you to remote areas as well as popular spots.

Cycling can be a therapeutic activity as it can help you to calm down and release stress. Problems and worries melt away. You will be able to think more clearly and find solutions to your problems.

Cycling is of course good for the environment. It does not pollute the air as do cars, motorcycles and vans. Getting around by bicycle is a simple, easy and effective way to help keep the environment clean. It is a practical solution to improving our air quality.

Therefore, there is no doubt that cycling has many benefits not only to the people who cycle but also to the environment. Hence, it is advisable for people from all walks of life to take up this wonderful and affordable activity.
