Dr. Juliet Burke, the mysterious Other of ABC's LOST is one of those people that you never quite know where they stand. One week you think she's on the good side, and the next week you're not quite sure where her intentions lie. Though, in the past season, much of her character has been revealed, and fans are quite sure, at this point, that her intentions have always been good. However, there are still areas of Juliet that are kept expressly hidden, possibly never to be revealed. Thus is the nature of her character, a secretive woman of whom you are never quite sure of.
Juliet started her appearance on the show when the infamous Others had just been revealed. She stood out because she was the one trusted by the leader, Ben, to draw Jack out and manipulate him into doing Ben's surgery. So, our first impression of Juliet is that she is just as manipulative as Ben, with very few good qualities. However, as we see more of her background, we discover that there is much much more to her. For instance, she is incredibly dedicated to her sister and to enabling her to have her own child. As a fertility doctor, she even tests new research on her sister, research that actually works. From this we see that Juliet is a very talented fertility doctor. She is good at what she does and this makes her a very powerful person, though she might not be aware of it at first.
During her flashbacks, we also see that she behaves meekly when confronted by her ex-husband. We see nothing of the strong woman that she becomes on the island. This makes her a very dynamic character. We see that she is capable of change, and that she has changed a great deal during her three years on the island. Though, one thing has not changed and that is her dedication to her sister. She agrees to stay on the island for three years, so that Ben will cure her sister's cancer. This shows already that she is willing to sacrifice herself for others.
When she first joins our Losties on the beach, her loyalty is tested as it is revealed that Ben is planning on raiding the camp to abduct all of the pregnant women. She shows that she is trustworthy by warning Jack of this and they set a trap. She says to Jack once that she is completely alone on the island. But by doing this, she is moving closer to being accepted by the Losties, just as the Others abandoned her.
When the freighter comes and she has the chance to leave the island, she declines until everyone else can get off first. This is another example
