The benefits of constructive feedback.begins first by describingthe term constructive feedback. It is differentiated from criticism implies the lack of success to the person receiving and the unhappiness of the person delivering it.
Feedback implies giving back from what was observed with the purpose of improving future performance. The term constructive has within it the construct meaning to build the skills and qualities for future usage. The advantages of constructive feedback is as follows:
* The person providing the constructive is acting as an agent of positive change for the organization. As employees improve performance, the bottom line with organizations tent to improve with greater likelihood for competing globally in a rapidly growing " lean and mean" environment.
* Trust is established between management and staff when constructive feedback is rendered. There is a quote that states, " People don"t care what you know until they know that you care". I am sure there situations in business where this does not apply as expertise takes precedence. But here the human element is critical and the application necessary for success.
* Managers providing constructive feedback practice a process of mentoring and developing their staff to stardom within the organization.
* Managers giving constructive feedback are also grooming others for their job freeing them for promotion to the next level.
The benefits to receiving constructive feedback is also important for the receiver so that a greater degree of professional success is assured. Here a few ideas to consider.
* By embracing constructive criticism, employees do not the ego gone astray. Please keep in mind the following process: The ego is interested in self protection and therefore in conflict with the search for the truth.
* Related to the above benefit is the limitation of self assessment. As I learned in the corporate environment, our customers and colleagues often see us as different than how we see ourselves. Please consider being open to constructive feedback especially if you observe a pattern of similar suggestions and remarks. Please give some thought to the following quote: " A person who is his own counselor frequently has a fool for a client".
* We receive constructive feedback madly, sadly or gladly. Madly lashes out the person offering the feedback and the anger will alienate and separate. Sadly internalizes the feedback debilitating the person's confidence and emotional balance. Accept gladly when the person is offering suggestions that will help catapult your career
Hopefully, there is one idea from both sides of the ledger that are of practical value!
