Why teens don't like to go to school

The majority of teenagers pass their school years in the depths of boredom, wishing they were out the doors and living their lives already. There are many reasons for this overwhelming hatred of school that most of us have experienced. In this article I will outline the main players that cause this strong feeling.

Sheer boredom

For many teenagers school simply does not interest them. This may be because they are doing subjects that don't appeal to them or because they aren't challenged enough. Some teenagers may just not be interested in academics at all because naturally they are more creative or are better at manual practical jobs. This boredom makes school tedious and makes teens hate going.

It's compulsory

No one really likes doing the things they have to do. Teenagers didn't choose to go to school; its something they have to do. When anyone is in that position they tend to feel frustrated, aggravated, or they simply outright hate it, even if the situation isn't actually that bad. How many of us like having to wash the dishes or pay the bills? We just have to.

Peer pressure

I know peer pressure gets blamed for all teenagers’ woes, but once again it is definitely relevant. It's just not cool to like school. “Everyone” hates it. So it would be seen as weird and unorthodox for a teen to break the mold and be school's biggest fan.

An obstacle

Teenagers tend to view school as an obstacle which has to be passed before life can begin. Nobody likes obstacles, and it seems beyond the ability of teenagers to entertain the possibility that it's not an obstacle at all, but a part of the life they are waiting to begin someday. It makes it even worse that this is an obstacle they can not go around or avoid; they just have to plow straight through.

Pressure

School can put teenagers under a lot of pressure. They have society telling them they have to do well to succeed in life and they are under pressure to be liked in the school's social circuit. So between homework and exams, they need to strive to keep everyone sweet and get their share of popularity. Juggling acts are never easy and teenagers can end up hating doing it.

So, these are the main reasons teenagers hate going to school. But on the bright side, the years pass quicker than ever expected, and sooner or later, real life hits along with the realization that school wasn't so bad after all!
