Any type of addiction is hard to break, and when you put drug in front of the word, breaking the addiction is even harder.
I am one of the fortunate people who, though I have tried a couple of different drugs, such as Ecstasy, cocaine, I did not like them. I have, however, been around many, many people who have been addicted to hard drugs such as these, meth, crack, heroin, even prescription pain pills.
I also have used marijuana, which I do not believe to be in the same category as a drug that can be classified as one that can cause an addiction, but can be habit forming.
When a person chooses to do a drug, there is usually some sort of pain, hurt, or anger that they are trying to cover up. Little do they know using these drugs are doing nothing more than creating more problems for them.
Once a person has experienced the high feeling these drugs bring, they want more and more. All of the feelings that were once burdening them so hard have disappeared, and the whole world is great. It is a feeling one never wants to end, and coming back to the real world can be a harsh slap in the face.
Without the help of these drugs, a person must once again face the world and the feelings associated with it, which they do not want to do. A person continues to do the drug to achieve this wonderful feeling, and soon they find themselves unable to function without it. Some of these drugs cause people to do things they would never do just to get more drugs, and bright, talented, and professional people can become one of these people.
In order for a person to become clean and free from the addiction of drugs, there must be a true desire to want to get clean. A person must usually hit rock bottom for this to occur. A person can not go it alone, and the only option is a long term treatment program. Even with treatment, a desire for the high feeling will always be there, especially when times get hard.
In order for a person to be successful at living a drug free life, they need support, and lots of it. They also must learn a more positive way to deal with the things life throws at them, and counseling is a necessity.
A person who has chosen drugs is not a bad person. Winning the battle with drugs is a long and hard process, but it can be done. People do change.
