What a bummer! You just lost your job title! This is the end of the world, right? No, not unless you let it be.

Although losing a title can be bruising to one’s ego, there are other matters that are much more important to deal with. You will learn how to cope with the loss of your job title.

If your boss takes away your title but does not say why, ask for an explanation. Even if it does not change the outcome, you are always likely to feel better about yourself if you ask someone for an explanation on a particular matter as you will not be left with regrets on why you did not try to find out the reason.

Another way you can cope is to look inside yourself to see who you really are. If you can see yourself without focusing on the title you had, you will have an easier time realizing your true identity.

Maintain your confidence. If you continue to believe in yourself, the disappearance of your title should not mean anything.

Ask yourself if having the title was worth it. What did it do for you? Did it give you a raise or an actual promotion? If the title only brought you a label and extra responsibility while making things a little more stressful, you are better off without it.

Enduring the loss of your title can serve as a wake up call and warn you that your status with the company is on the line. If you have been stripped with no assurance that everything is okay, start working harder and begin looking for a new job.

Take your loss in stride. You have to realize that things could have been worse for you at the office and be grateful you still have a job.

Use this situation as a learning experience. Focus on how to avoid repeating your job mistakes, if you made any. Use your loss to show others how you can never take anything you have for granted.

Think about how your title made you think and act. Did you think you were better than everyone else? Were you snobby or inconsiderate? If losing the title made you a better person, it was worth it.

You have the option to move on. When you have no control over what happens to you, you must put the matter behind you and go forward.

Follow these steps to make the most of your situation and become a better employee and person!
