How the Internet has changed publishing

by William Bond

Created on: January 26, 2010

The iInternet has made a huge change in publishing today, from the website used by writers today  the  to display their talent and expertise to the world, poets offering their insights and quotes, the bloggers turning out specialized informtion  daily , the writers of  articles, the ability to to write query letter to editors, and being able to  send a book proposals  direct to an editor of publisher of your choice, a query letter on that specialized article to the magazine you carefully selected.  Today successful writer learns daily by reading the work of  great writers, from counties all over the world, with finding new writing styles, accents, from all theese excellent  writers  worldwide.  The Internet has developed a sense of freedom for writers, compared with the pre Internet publishing era.

You worked hard on the article, finding a good topic,  and then carefully researching the material which will make the article the best one written on it.  The typical  article was 4-5 manuscript papers, about  l,700-2,000 words.  Once completed, you write a query letter to the magazine editor in New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Texas, Chicago, Illinois, or Boston, Massachusetts.  Expect the  editor to take, between 6-8 weeks, to get back  to you with a decision.  The decision may be no, or perhaps, a "Send it a.long, we will look at it, we offer no promises."  You must then wait another 4-5 weeks for an answer.  If the publihser decides to publish you article, they write you a letter, tell you it will run in the July issue of  the magazine, and once published, they send you a copy of the magazine, and a check for your article.  There were just too many  steps for publishing, and long waits between getting the word of  their interest, acceptance, or nonaccpetance, and finally, when  accepted,  a payment.  The Internet publishing is faster, and this can increase the volume and qualilty of your work.  Book publishing in the pre Internet was slower as well.
