Reflections: Surviving a nuclear war

Unless you are one of the lucky ones with the golden key to get swept out and transported to a save place before the missiles fire, surviving a nuclear war is not going to happen. If you do survive what will be left- are the same government mavericks who authorized the firing of the missiles.

But now they will have very few people to govern. The production of goods and services will be nothing for many years. They will just be housed all together until the air is clean enough for them to go outside. Can you imagine all of these knuckleheads in one place with all of their wealth. Playing Monopoly may be a fun thing to do. And how many cans of tuna fish and beans can one eat before they tire of it?

All of the military might of the world will have been destroyed. The generals will not have any kind of weaponry to keep on fighting. Maybe there will be peace finally in the world, unless someone brought their game of Risk for entertainment. After all what is there left to fight for.

What is scary is the only thing that will walk the earth after a nuclear war is the cockroaches. Can you imagine living in a cave for many years and when you walk out to take your first breath, the land is covered with cockroaches because the bug spray has not been used.

In a nuclear war each country who has nuclear capabilities has at least 1 missile to fire before their country is destroyed. Why a government would deliberately put themselves in jeopardy of being extinct is beyond my comprehension.

One thing I do hope for is the people who are selected have enough sense to think about what they have done and come up with a better way of living together in the New World they have created.

When I was growing up in the Cold War I can remember the school having drills for evacuation in case of a nuclear war. Now that I am older I shake my head in wonderment-were we really going to be safe from harm by going into the basement of the building and sitting on the floor with our heads between our legs? I think not.
