How to choose the perfect blush product

When looking for the perfect blush it is important to consider two things – the color and the texture.  Blush has the ability to create an instant glow to the face giving a brighter and more cheerful appearance.  In fact, the application of a little blush can make all the difference – it simply makes you look more awake and alert.

Choosing the right shade of blush is very important to the overall look of your makeup application. The last thing you want to do is have on different shades and color tones that compete with one another.  When choosing to wear blush make sure the shade is in the same tone as the rest of your makeup including your lipstick and eye makeup.

If you are wearing berry colored lipstick then make it a priority to choose a blush that is in the same color family as berry.  The same goes with other tones or shades including plum shades, peach shades, pink shades and neutral shades.  The colors of your lipsticks, blush and eye make up does not have to be an exact match but they definitely should be in the same shade or color family.  Jewel tones with jewel tones, neutral tones with neutral tones and so on.

The ideal color blush for your skin tone is one that matches the color of your natural blush!  Basically if you are exercising or if become flushed in the face take note of the color.  This color is considered your “natural” blush color and to create the most natural and glowing look choose a blush that is similar in color to your natural blush shade.

You will also want to consider your skin tone.  Do you have a peachy, rosy or olive tone?  Is your complexion ivory, light, medium or dark? Ivory and light tones look best with peachy and pink shades, medium tones look great in rose and plum shades, dark tones look fabulous in plum, bronze and red shades.

It can take a little experimentation with colors to find the perfect shade for your tone and complexion but there is no better way to discover your natural shade than to try various types and colors of blush.  Department stores frequently offer free make up applications and will usually give free samples as well.  Take advantage of these great offers and deals to get your make up done and to find the best shades for your tone and complexion.

The type of blush you choose can also make a difference in how it is applied and looks on the skin.  Cream and gel blushes, stick blushes, blush stains and powder blushes are just several of your blush options.  Cream and stick blushes are easy to apply and blend and work very well on dry skin.  Gel blushes and blush stains last longer on the skin but need to be applied in several light layers for a perfect application.  Powder blush is especially great on oily skin because it absorbs excess oil and reduces shine on the face.

Regardless of your skin type blush is a must have in any woman’s make up routine.  Take the time to try different shades and types in order to find the perfect blush for you!
