Tips on applying makeup

Make up is a great way to enhance your features.  Not only does it have the ability to hide and diminish skin imperfections it also has the ability to highlight and enhance various features.

Using the right colors and techniques to apply makeup can make a tremendous difference in the tone and texture of the skin giving the appearance of a flawless and glowing complexion.

When applying makeup start with a clean face and apply a rich moisturizer to plump up the skin creating a soft smooth surface for the application of foundation and concealer.

Foundation should be applied using the tips of the fingers and blended using a soft sponge.  Use corrective concealer on areas that look dull, discolored or uneven such as the under eye area, dark spots, blotchy areas or blemishes. Corrective concealer has the ability to brighten the skin and create an even looking flawless skin tone.  Foundation and concealer are two key makeup items that act as a base for the application of face powder, blush, eye shadow, liner, lipstick and mascara.

Face powder is great for oily skin and is used to reduce shine and to keep foundation and concealer in place.  However, if you are prone to dry skin then face powder should be applied minimally to the cheek, nose and chin area only.  Applying face powder to dry skin will only amplify dry effects and can make the face feel extremely parched and uncomfortable.

Blush can be applied using a cream blush or a powder blush.  To keep blush looking fresh all day long try applying a small amount of cream blush to the apples of the cheeks and extend over the cheekbones.  Cream blush is great because it is easy to apply and gives the illusion of a dewy radiant complexion. Set the blush by applying a very light and soft layer of powdered blush over the cheeks in the same shade.  Powdered blush will give the cream blush staying power and will not rub off like typical powdered blush will do.

Eyebrows are another very important feature to highlight creating a polished and natural look.  Use an eyebrow pencil or eyebrow powder to fill in the brow line and create a natural looking yet full brow.  Use a shade similar to that of your natural brows or hair color.  When applying brow makeup make sure not to apply it in one straight application.  Instead try lightly feathering the pencil or powder over the brows to create a natural looking brow line.

Lipstick and lip gloss are must have makeup
