Playing video games online have become very popular among gamers and consumers. Anytime a new game is released, multiplayer is a feature that is as important as the single player campaign. But not all multiplayer games last favorably long among gamers. So what makes an online gaming enjoyable? Just look back to "Counter Strike" and the standards it set for other games.
"Counter Strike" was originally a modification designed for Half-Life by a few fans back in 2000. Yet it became so popular that it evolved into one of the greatest online multiplayer games of all time. Even today there are thousands of servers available with hundreds of games being played on the Steam Network.
The preemies of “Counter Strike” is that two teams (Terrorist vs. Counter-Terrorists) battle it out online either in a death-match style or team based objectives. Each match ends when one team accomplishes their goal or wipes the other team out.
Its features and quality are very simple, yet every online game like it have always attempted to set their standards based on “Counter Strike”. Its basically the “GoldenEye 007” of online games, were its roots began.
For example; “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” has verity of multiplayer gameplay and co-op missions that could be played online. The co-op is originally while the online game has elements that were inspired by “Counter Strike”.
Yet the online fun for “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” until the next FPS game hit’s the market next holiday.
Then the “Battlefield“-series began to change online gameplay when it allowed gamers to experience some of histories greatest battles with a verity of gamers. The fun was set out on a massive map with a verity of vehicles and weapons. It had many of the elements of “Counter Strike” and more.
The next change in online gaming was “World of Warcraft”. MMORPG’s have been around for some time with games like “Ever Quest” and “Diablo II” but it was mostly played by very exclusive fans. That is until Warcraft the popularized the genera and entered MMORGP’s into mainstream culture.
The games massive maps, user friendly gameplay, along with a verity of amazing features help win over gamers.
Very few games have tried to emulate “Battlefield“-series or “World of Warcraft” as more producers tend to try and make their game more like “Counter Strike”. Online games come and go, but “Counter Strike” will be online for ever.
