Car reviews: 2010 Jaguar XJ

Jaguar have been competing at the top level of car manufacturing for a long, long time. They produce quality-made, fast, comfortable and luxurious automobiles that are the envy of many other car manufacturers. Coming in to 2010 with a proud and distinguished history, Jaguar have large boots to fill with their newer models. However, things look very promising.

The XJ is Jaguar’s highest end sedan for 2010 and it leads in more ways than just the price. Like much of the Jaguar range, the XJ has undergone a change in style. Jaguar have re-designed their cars to look more modern and have been very successful. The new models look fantastic and worthy of carrying the Jaguar brand into this new decade.

The XJ is the flagship of the Jaguar line-up and so has to be eye-catching. Styled much like the XF, the XJ looks a little meaner and more aggressive and that can be mainly put down to the larger grille in the front and the angular rear lights.  It certainly looks impressive and is far more attractive than its predecessor. The glass roof is an inspired idea and adds to the modernity of this new XJ.

The interior is full of class and luxury and this is where it separates itself from the lesser XF. The leather seats and options for wood veneers in amongst a very tidy and attractive dashboard and central console should say something about its class without ever being seen..

Under the hood, the XJ continues to impress. The base model comes equipped with a somewhat economic 3 litre V-6 diesel capable of around 275bhp. For those looking for more speed, there are two more options, starting with  the 5 litre V-8 which can produce approximately 385bhp and rounding off with the 5 litre supercharged V-8 that can power out a massive 510bhp and would be capable of reaching a much higher top speed than the 155mph it is limited to.

The XJ is similar to all other 2010 Jaguars in the respect that it is a rear-wheel drive vehicle that comes with a, well engineered, six speed automatic transmission. The safety features are also the same, with the XJ coming with ABS, along with front, side and side curtain airbags. Traction and stability control also feature.

There are a couple of options that help to further separate the XJ from the XF and a couple of them would include the heated steering wheel, available in a range of wood finishes and four-zone climate control. Other common amenities are also found with connections for your MP3 player available and satellite navigation.

The XJ starts at around 53,000 pounds, which is quite expensive, but we are talking about the flagship of Jaguar vehicles here. For the more powerful, more luxurious XJ, one will be looking to spend approximately 90,000 pounds!

The XJ is a fantastic automobile and a sign that Jaguar have been successful with the redesign of one of their motoring icons. The car drives as brilliantly as the XF and looks phenomenal as it takes to the roads. It is the epitome of class and luxury in the sedan world and sits proudly amongst its rivals at the top of the motoring world. Whilst it is expensive, for those that can afford it, there are few high end sedans out there that can match it.
