First thing I got to say is buyer beware of sellers. Be aware what you are getting into when buying a horse if this is your first time or maybe second be sure you be careful of what sellers say or do. There are few tricks sellers do to get you to buy the horse I have seen a lot in my time of going out with my friend taking people out to see horses. We acted as brokers we would take prospective buyers to find a horse for them or their child. It is a very good idea for you to find someone who you trust to get you the right horse or someone with a good reputation for knowing horses and types. For example don’t find someone who knows all about quarter horses when you want a Thoroughbred or a jumping breed. Find someone who is unbiased since this will help you as well.
I am going to tell you about one of the cases we had where the parents wanted a horse for their child she learned how to ride and she wants her own horse. She really didn’t have a set idea of the type of horse she wanted so we took her out to a few horses.
Some sellers don’t know that there is anything wrong with their horse either they didn’t realise it is a big deal since they really have no idea about a horse or they might just be that ignorant to the fact a horse is hurt. We actually met one such person. We get to the place the horse is already saddled. A no-no in our book, we like seeing the horse without a saddle first. There was a few things that we didn’t like besides the horse being saddled she placed the ad of the horse as a pleasure horse. She told us she thought it meant the horse was a pleasure to ride. This horse was far from pleasurable especially when we found that her back was deformed possibly from an ill fitting saddle and the horse was in pain which was why the owner said she liked riding English as she would not buck or get upset.
The next horse was a thoroughbred the horse was okay but there were a few things we knew was that the lady was trying to prove the horses sanity by having a huge bit in the horse’s mouth and saying he would be a great mount we shuffled them away as they were almost hooked by the ploy.
The final horse we didn’t get to see but we did get asked to pick her up for them. These people took advantage of the girl. The horse wasn’t happy although who would if all you wanted to do was ride and you decide not to get to know your mount. The horse would get upset from leaving the barn or pasture. The horse became
