People worshiping in the traditional Catholic and Protestant churches assume God is a male."Our Father who art in Heaven".
How do we know? Such question is unnecessary to the worshiper. These people are about faith, belief and doctrine.
People in progressive churches are about inclusive language. They begin the Lord's Prayer...Our Mother,Our Father. As fairness is a priority, God's gender is split evenly.
The different approaches seem like a power struggle between the traditional practice of doctrine and the progressive position of question and doubt within belief.
How about a God without a gender?
It's a tough one. He is the way it is meant to be. Also, its simple to see why we attach a gender to God. We pray to God who is a divine somebody. It's natural to associate everybody ( God included ) to the duality of gender,
Our culture tell us we are male or female. What happens when we get past this duality? We find a path to spirituality when we find we are a combination. We practice courage when we act the opposite of our stereotyped gender.
In addition, praying to a God of gender is a form of defensive spirituality. This behavior frequently complains, resists, requests and seeks approval.
What about a genderless God living within us?
What about a God who is everywhere including the house of worship on Sunday? The God within us through silence, conscious breathing and aware cuts through the mindless and selfish recitation of what we need or want. We pay the price of arrogance when we gwr what we want. We pay the price of anger and bitterness when God says no.
How about changing the Lord's Prayer to: Our God, who art within us...
We worship a Divine Power called God.Why not worship non-dually without the need of a gender?
