Of the many ways for men to get attention of the opposite sex, none works better than not appearing to be too eager as well as presenting yourself in a way that will attract the attention you want. As for women, don't look unapproachable, or disinterested. To go into a little more detail, women can sense when a man is on the prowl. Body language, glances, or conversation can work for or against getting attention in the right way.

A little bit of a mystery seems to attract a lot of attention. The more mysterious, the more someone wants to find out what the mystery is all about. For some reason, both men and women alike share a bad habit, and that is always trying to present themselves as though they have something going for them by the way they try to present the image of one who has many trying to get to know them.

This works against the desired outcome. The reason is that if a man sees a women surrounded by men, even though not a single one of them is interesting to her, he might feel he doesn't have a chance, and to her, she thinks that by a show of popularity, she will attract more of his attention.

She might bury herself among a bunch of her girlfriends, joking, and having a good time, in which case, this sends a signal of another kind. Most men find it difficult to approach a group of women to single out one he might be interested in. Why is that? Well, for one reason, it would be a shot for her ego for a guy to approach her as she might feel this is impressing her friends, and might not react in the same way if she were alone for a moment.

A woman might find a guy interesting, but perhaps feels that her friends wouldn't, and so she might turn the other way, or share a little laugh with her friends as though she had no interest what so ever. For some reason, a person of interest can be lost by not providing the right circumstances for which to meet that person.

A guy might think that bragging about how many girls call him through the week is a way of advertising his popularity in the hopes of attracting a girl he really wants. Couldn't be further from the truth. A woman isn't interested in how many other women want his attention, she is only interested in him paying attention to her, and by having a following as he does, she might feel it just isn't worth it.

For a guy to gain attention, he needs to show that he is in control , and is secure about  himself. Forget about lines, forget about "trying" to impress. Before even approaching a woman
