Here is a simple step by step process on how to meditate for beginners with a few explanations on what you're doing so you don't get lost or confused about the process. Meditation is fun and enjoyable, so rule number one is to take away any Idea that meditation is some sort of exercise. Think of it instead as mental masturbation. It's the mind gaining pleasure from getting in touch with itself.

Step 1:

Find some place where you will be relaxed and undisturbed. I think the best place is somewhere near nature as this will reflect the peace and stillness inside yourself. Take a few moments to just breath in the stillness of your surroundings. Observe the things around you. Observe the space, the distance between the things around you. Concentrate on the space and breathe.

Step 2:

Close your eyes and focus your attention inwards. Become aware of your breath flowing in and out. Let this process go on for a minute or to and then become aware of the sensations inside your hands, in your legs, in your face. Wherever you can feel the slight warmth and tingling of aliveness inside your body, feel that now and feel it getting stronger and stronger.

Step 3:

Become aware of the presence of stillness within yourself once more. Then notice the thoughts that drift across your mind. Notice the contents of the thoughts, what subjects your mind likes to think about. Ask yourself, "What will my next thought be?" as often as you can and wait for the answer.

Do this for as long as you feel like or as often as you feel like. You can even take break in between to practice moving in and out of the noise of the conscious mind into the stillness. You will begin to see the difference between an active thinking state of mind and a mind that is engaged in relaxed observation. Meditation is easy and beneficial, even if you are a beginner. As soon as you begin doing it, surrender into the knowledge than at the moment you are meditating, it is the most important thing in the world. The more you surrender, the more you give into allowing all thoughts and things to flow through you, the better your meditation experience will be.
