The Bible is a work of originally Jewish literature that was intended to set forth guidelines in which human beings should be subject to. These guidelines are based on morals from the time of the Bible's origin. God is a real, living, and wonderful being who walks with humans every day, speaking to them and pointing out lessons and dangers that are relevant to each person. God is personal and talks directly to people. Therefore, why would God need a book?
Right v. Wrong
Everyone knows right from wrong. Perhaps the simplest way to define what's wrong or right is to put oneself in the context of the equation. If someone stabs you, burns down your home, or does some other type of shameful act that harms you, that is wrong. Causing harm to another living being without reasonable cause or justification is evil.
Yet, the Old Testament of the Bible has several instances of this. Those who were self-righteous and believed they were under the influence of God would take over cities, make slaves of foreigners, and stone children for making small mistakes rather than teaching them the right way to do things.
Discrimination
The Bible is heavily discriminatory towards women because it was written in a time and a culture that had no appreciation for the ones who gave them their life to begin with. Women should be celebrated as life-givers, not persecuted because of their gender. In that time, women were forced to live off of men and could have no career, barely any education, and no political say-so and this was totally acceptable. No loving and fair God would want the ones that he designated for life to be treated in such an ill and inhumane manner.
The Bible also discriminates against homosexuals; a practice that is wrong on so many levels. While promiscuity has it's earthly and spiritual consequences as everyone knows, not all homosexuals are promiscuous. Many maintain ethical, monogamous lifestyles that are not at all what the mainstream image displays them as. When the Bible was written, people were so afraid of homosexuals that they actually killed them. They killed them because they didn't and couldn't understand them.
Look to God, Not the Bible
The Bible was a man-made tool that has often been used for control, domination, and other terrible acts throughout history. The American colonists used it to justify stealing land from the Natives, Southern slave owners used it to control African Americans in the times of American slavery, British rulers used it as an excuse to kill thousands of innocent women. This is not the way of God.
God speaks to everyone. Sit out in the middle of the forest and listen to him. He talks to us through everything, if only people would take the time to listen to him. Having a Spiritual connection with God is as simple as prayer, meditation, and listening.
