Yes, you can password protect folders in Windows XP. Any other Operating System, there are some programs available that will allow you to do this.
If you have a password for you account, to login to your computer, then you can do it. As long as your hard drive is NTFS formatted (assuming it is, since you'd be using XP). Next you'd want to right click on the folder and select Properties. Next, click on the Sharing tab at the top of the window and select "Make this folder private". Click Apply. If there is no password for your account, you will get a window asking you if you want to create a password. This is the same password you will have to use, to login to your computer if you create a password for the folder.
As long as you're the only one who knows the password, you're the only one with access to the folder.
